A small Spanish restaurant located just off Jasper Ave in a quaint house decorated perfectly for the Christmas season with white lights and candles. We shared appetizers: potato allioli, calamari, chicken skewers... and the tradition began: sangria!!! We all enjoyed a cheese cake and creme brule. This great restaurant was to become the first of many for our dinner club. Sadly, it turns out we were there just before the restaurant's closing night. La Tapa closed its doors after ten and a half years of operation in downtown Edmonton. Thanks for the memories, La Tapa!!! Afterwards, we hit the Rivercree Casino.

Dinner Club Members

DAVE - likes pasta and Italian restaurants. He is learning to enjoy food with a bit of spice in it. He does not like seafood. At all! He doesn't drink alcohol. He prefers desserts with fruit in them rather than chocolate. He is more than willing to help the others finish off their plates if they are having trouble.

BREE - loves seafood or anything spicy. She is willing to try just about anything new when it comes to food and she is the official beer taster of Dinner Club. She also never has to worry about what or how much she eats on these nights because we all know there is no such thing as calories at Dinner Club.

ANGELA - enjoys red meat, red wine and great Scotch. So long as there is no wheat on her plate, then there are no worries! She cautions that an empty stomach causes her to build a food fort around her plate (made up of menus, salt/pepper shakers and anything else available) and she pities the fool who tries to cross into her territory!

The Rules of Dinner Club

1. You don't talk about Dinner Club. The restaurant selection must be kept secret until the night it occurs.

2. Participants must show up hungry. Appetizers, main courses and desserts must all be ordered.

3. There are only three people to a dinner. However, if new members, such as out of town guests, are to be added, they must be ratified by all three original members.

4. Advance notice must be given. Fair warning must be given as to dress requirements and estimated expense.

5. Franchises and prior visits are not allowed. Restaurants must be chosen by recommendation or research and they must be new to the person selecting them.

6. Dinners go as long as they have to. Participants must free the entire evening to allow for a long dinner and any after activities that may ensue. It is not a Dinner Club night unless we are there when the restaurant closes.

7. Generosity is a must. If someone at another table is celebrating a special occasion, we will send over a drink or buy their dessert.

8. If your first name is Dave, you have to drive. Enough said.

9. If an out of town guest attends three times, he or she receives an honorary membership. While still unable to participate in selecting restaurants, the honorary member can request a Dinner Club outing whenever he or she is in town.

10. If the waiter or waitress does not first introduce him/herself, the members of Dinner Club must make a game of guessing his or her name. If one of the members is successful in guessing the name, the other two will pay for the winner's dinner.
